The market's reviews concentrate at the top: the most-reviewed 10% of listings hold 36% of all reviews.

Louisville stands out on both axes: the highest share of businesses with no website (37%) and the strongest review concentration (40%) — the fewest businesses competing seriously online, and the biggest advantage for those who do.
The sites that do exist are slow.
Among the 95 tree service websites we could fully audit with Google PageSpeed: the median mobile performance score is 60/100, 19% score under 50, and only 3% reach 90 or above. The median site takes 10.1 seconds to load on mobile. 26% have no tap-to-call link, 14% aren’t served over HTTPS, and 22% show a copyright year of 2024 or older — a site nobody is maintaining.
Methodology.
Sample. We collected 536 unique tree service Google Business listings (deduplicated by place ID) across four U.S. metros — Cincinnati OH, Columbus OH, Indianapolis IN, and Louisville KY — in early July 2026.
Scope. The numbers describe independent and small-to-mid local operators — the businesses that appear when someone searches for tree work in these metros — not national franchises. Review counts are as captured at collection time; heavily-reviewed listings may be undercounted, which would make the true review concentration higher than reported, not lower.
Website audits. Website presence comes from the full 536-listing sample. Site-quality metrics (speed, HTTPS, tap-to-call, copyright year) come from the 95 sites we could fully fetch and audit, with performance measured by Google PageSpeed Insights (mobile, lab conditions).
